Elected to the bench in 2024, Judge Joe Barone brings decades of legal expertise, public service, and community leadership to the 35th District Court. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Michigan State University (Eli Broad College of Business), juris doctorate degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, and his master of laws degree from Wayne State University Law School. Prior to his election, Judge Barone practiced law for nearly 30 years, representing individuals, families, and businesses in Plymouth, Canton, and Northville. His practice encompassed a wide range of legal matters, including criminal defense, civil litigation, family law, and municipal issues.

Beyond his legal career, Judge Barone has a long history of community involvement and leadership. He was a former Wayne County Commissioner, board member for the Canton Chamber of Commerce, and a board member for the Plymouth Township DDA & Brownfield Redevelopment Authority. He was honored as the 2013 Canton Chamber Business Person of the Year. Judge Barone is a former Canton Chamber Ambassador. He is also a Leadership Plymouth graduate and a past member of the Canton Leadership Team.
Judge Barone has contributed to the community as a volunteer trial attorney for the Schoolcraft College Police Academy and an attorney advisor for the Canton Homeowners Advisory Council. His professional affiliations include the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers, the Italian American Bar Association of Michigan, the Michigan Association for Justice, the Michigan District Judges Association and the Michigan Judges Association.
A 28-year resident of the area, Judge Barone has lived, worked, and raised his family here, developing deep ties to the community he serves. Judge Barone is honored to bring his extensive experience and unwavering dedication to the 35th District Court as he continues to serve the community he calls home.
